January 1, 2010--Server Upgrade
Begin January 1st, 2010 we will be migrating from the Windows Server 2003 platform to a brand new platforn based on Windows Server 2008 64 Bit operating system.
Some of the exciting changes you can expect after the migration includes,
- Windows 2008 (64-bit) IIS 7 Hosting
Improving further on it's predecessor, IIS 7 provides a superior platform for better stability, improved security and faster performance.
- MSSQL 2008
The latest incarnation of MSSQL, MSSQL 2008 features a even faster and more efficient database engine.
- URL Rewrite Module (supports SEO-friendly URLs)
A long awaited feature, you can now take advantage of this great feature previously available only on Linux servers. With the module, you can now make your website URLs more descriptive to improve user-friendliness and at the same aid in search engine optimization.
- PHP 5
Offering a host of improvements over PHP 4, PHP 5 is now natively supported on IIS 7. With the new architecture, overheads are drastically reduced and you can expect a dramatic 20x performance gain on your existing PHP applications.
- MySQL 5
The same great features of MySQL 4, MySQL 5 now includes support for Stored Procedures and Views.
- DotNetPanel Control Panel
We will also be switching over to DotNetPanel from Helm on these new servers. The new control panel allows for greater flexibility in your account as you can now create a common FTP or database login to manage all your resources. After the migration, you can also access the control panel with the more user-friendly URL http://cp.yourdomainname.com.
